MOUNT CARROLL – The annual Mayfest celebration will return Friday to Sunday to the old Shimer College grounds, 203 E. Seminary St.
The festival took a year off in 2018 due to a lack of a location, but is returning with bands, Civil War reenactors, a 5K race, and much more.
Admission to the Civil War reenactment, presented by Battery G 2nd Illinois Light Artillery, will be free. The camp will be open from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. Cannon and small arms demonstrations will be at 10 and 11:30 a.m. and 1, 2, and 4 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m. and 12:30 and 2 p.m. Sunday.
Arts and crafts vendors will be on-site, starting Friday and from 10 a.m. to close Saturday and Sunday. A food tent also will be open. Vendors can still apply for space; stop at the Carroll County Mirror-Democrat office, 308 N. Main St., or go to mayfestvending.eventbrite.com to sign up and for more information.
Access to the wine and beer tent, and bands, will cost $8 for the weekend's entire musical lineup. Buttons are good for the whole weekend and cost $7 in advance. Buttons can be purchased at Mobil, 315 S. Clay St.; Shaw's MarketPlace, 848 S. Jackson St.; Shaw's Express, 855 S. Mill St.: Mount Carroll Home Center, 903 S. Clay St.; Mount Carroll City Hall, 302 N. Main St.; and the Mirror-Democrat.
The Mayfest 5K run will be at 8 a.m. Saturday, leaving from the old college gates. Pre-race packets will be available from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the beer tent. Race day registration and packet pickup will be from 7 to 7:45 a.m. outside Metcalf Hall on the college grounds.

3-6 p.m.: Travelin' Band, a Credence Clearwater Revival tribute.
6-8 p.m.: Josh Naylon and Friends.
8-11 p.m.: Back Country Roads.
Sunday: 10 a.m. to noon: Nondenominational church service.
Noon-2 p.m.: Finding Home.
3-5 p.m.: Medicinal Purposes.
5-7 p.m.: Evan Atherton.
7-10 p.m. Heartache Tonight, an Eagles tribute.
